I feel my writing has definitely improved this semester. My strengths would have to be analyzing text and taking it apart; using the authors choice of words to uncover the tone of the piece. Using DILDS to take the text apart did help me improve my skills tremendously and the daily free writes we did in class helped me get comfortable about writing in my own style and not be as tense and serious while writing. Also citing work and references were things that improved quite a bit during this semester and learning how to properly cite from a book. Some things I could still use improvement in would be annotating text. Annotating text is a big key to analyzing it as well since they go hand-in-hand and I feel it may be my biggest weakness. Another skill that I could improve upon would be my grammar, while writing I when I get passionate about a subject I try to get all my thoughts onto the paper as quick as possible that I don't pay attention to all my grammar mistakes, and also knowing the proper times to use commas, colons, and semicolons. I would have to admit although that even if it's my biggest weakness annotating text has been my biggest improvement as well because before this semester annotating n excerpt while reading it would not have crossed my mind, but now I do it within the first sentence. my goal for the upcoming year is to improve mostly in my weakest assets, but still give attention to the ones that are my strongest and embrace those as well. I hope by this time next year my annotating skills are advanced level annotating and that my grammar and punctuation will greatly improve as well.
Course Analysis
I was excited entering this class English has always been one of m best and favorite subjects since I get to express my feelings and opinions freely. The assignments that I mostly enjoyed would have to be reading The Glass Castle and the American Dream Podcast because they were things that I experienced for the first time. I never read The Glass Castle but it might just be one of my top 5 favorite books and creating a podcast from scratch was a bit exciting especially needing to use your thinking skills and problem-solving skills with all the technology used. The course improved my skill to work in a group and communicate effectively with others in that group. Anything to do with analyzing I enjoyed because it as like learning to have a sixth sense and I'm glad it made me realize that that's what I was best at. I personally felt I didn't just grow in my writing and analyzing skills in this course, but also as a person; not only did the new people I meet helped me grow and realize how different but great everyone is. The teacher also allowed me to see that limiting yourself wasn't acceptable and that you're always capable of more. I look forward to using these new found skills in my upcoming courses and throughout the course called life as well.
